Counseling and Therapy

for LGBTQIA+ Teens

Many LGBTQIA+ folks struggle with identity and social issues!

LGBT children and teens may experience feelings of being “different.”

However, because society has reached a greater acceptance with LGBT identities,

people may be able to recognize and identify these feelings at an early age.

Some individuals begin to explore gender or same-sex relationships as early as preschool or kindergarten!

For others, the identity becomes clearer when they begin to experience “crushes” or sexual attraction to others.

Therapy can help you accept and celebrate your true self!

Adolescence and young adulthood is a time of excitement and exploration, but, for some people, sexual identity may bring feelings of fear and uncertainty.  Teens may not only fear coming out to their families, but they may worry about what this will do to their peer relationships as well.  Some children or teens may suppress or hide their feelings and identities in order to fit in at their schools or in communities.  However, this may have a negative effect; suppression and hiding feelings may lead to feelings of isolation, which leads to an increased risk of mental illness.

I can guide you toward empowerment!

It’s possible to feel better! Imagine a life where you could...

  • Feel more free and safe in your relationships.

  • Figure out who you are and what direction to go in next.

  • Create a more meaningful life based on who you are and what you desire.

  • Stop letting anxiety affect the way you live or make any decisions for you.

  • Gain the courage to be your authentic self!

Therapy helps you start move towards your ideal life with less confusions and more confidence.

You will get you the fresh perspective you need to feel shed insecurities and grow into who you really are.

Together, we will build a toolbox of practical actions you need to find your way through difficult feelings and situations and deal with the challenges that arise in life.  Even if you are not usually comfortable opening up to people, therapy during your teen years may be able to help.

My clients discover that it's possible to be productive and passionate without living life at a frenzied pace!

What you can expect:

Therapy consists of 50-minute, one-on-one sessions that help you work through your concerns. Typically, the client leads the conversation.  In addition to listening, I will guide you towards solutions.

Here’s how it will work, step-by-step:

1. First, I provide a safe, accepting space so that you will feel comfortable sharing your struggles with me.
2. Through hearing your story, I will start to get a picture of what your challenges are.
3. We will start with helping you with immediate concerns like managing difficult emotions and challenging life situations
4. We will also work to discover what your goals are in therapy and in life.
5. Keeping your unique goals in mind, we’ll figure out what’s needed to help you reach them
6. Over the course of our sessions, you will start making progress towards the life you desire.

Research shows that therapy during adolescence can
positively change your thinking, beliefs, emotions, and behaviors.

It can help you let go of what’s holding you back!  :)
